Artesanía en San juan Teotihuacán: cambios en las relaciones de género.

Abstract

Las políticas de reforma estructural implementadas en México en la década de los noventa abrieron paso a las políticas neoliberales afectando los niveles de bienestar y calidad de vida de millones de personas. El sector rural fue uno de los más afectados, el desempleo se incrementó, hombres y mujeres fueron impulsados a insertarse en el mercado informal. La producción artesanal representó una alternativa para la generación de ingresos, y para muchas familias rurales significó la única fuente generadora de recursos. En la actividad artesanal hombres y mujeres participan de diferente manera, generando formas diversas de relacionarse. A partir de éste postulado es que se estudió a una organización artesanal que agrupa a artesanos/as que elaboran diversos productos en el municipio de San Juan Teotihuacán. El objetivo general del estudio fue conocer si la participación de las mujeres en la actividad artesanal ha transformado las relaciones de género entre hombres y mujeres e impulsado a los hombres a adoptar formas de convivencia más equitativas, no solo en el trabajo productivo sino también en el reproductivo. A través de una metodología mixta, utilizando encuesta y entrevista se obtuvo información de las formas de organización de mujeres y hombres en el trabajo artesanal y el trabajo doméstico. Los resultados dan cuenta de los pocos cambios que han experimentado los hombres a pesar del trabajo de las mujeres, y de que ellos aprecian y valoran el aporte de ellas tanto en el trabajo artesanal como en el del hogar. Algunos cambios en las relaciones de género, aunque insipientes, se pueden observar en las parejas más jóvenes. ________________ HANDCRAFTS IN SAN JUAN TEOTIHUACÁN: CHANGES IN GENDER RELATIONS. ABSTRACT: The policies of structural reform implemented in Mexico in the nineties opened the way to neoliberal policies affecting the levels of social welfare and quality of life of millions of people. The rural sector was one of the most affected, unemployment increased, men and women were encouraged to insert themselves in the informal labor market. The artisanal production represented an alternative for the generation of income, and for many rural families it means the only source of generating resources. In the artisanal activity men and women participate in different ways, generating different ways of relating each other. From this postulate an artisan organization that brings together artisans / as who make various products in the municipality of San Juan Teotihuacán was studied. The general objective of this study was to know if the participation of women in artisanal activity has transformed gender relations between men and women and encouraged men to adopt more equitable forms of coexistence, not only in productive but also in reproductive work. Through a mixed methodology, using survey and interview, information was obtained on the forms of organization of women and men in artisan and domestic work. The results account for the few changes that men have experienced despite the work of women and the fact that they appreciate and value their contribution both in the handcraft work and at the home. Some changes in gender relations, although incipient, can be observed in younger couples.
