Conocimiento tradicional sobre el manejo del cultivo de vainilla (Vanilla planifolia Jacks Ex. Andrews) en San Luis Potosí y Veracruz, México.

Abstract

En los sistemas tradicionales de producción de Vanilla planifolia J. en la Región Totonaca de Veracruz y la Huasteca del estado de San Luis potosí reflejan el conocimiento tradicional, cultura y el ambiente donde se desarrollan. Sin embargo, se desconoce el sistema de manejo tradicional que los productores ejercen durante el ciclo del cultivo, además de aquellas etapas y labores críticas para la producción y la calidad de vainilla. Por tal motivo el objetivo de esta investigación fue el de sistematizar las labores de manejo en las etapas de establecimiento, floración y polinización, desarrollo del fruto y cosecha del cultivo de vainilla. Para sistematizar las actividades de manejo se entrevistaron a 20 productores a través de un cuestionario y para establecer las labores de manejo en cada etapa del cultivo se elaboró un Índice de Prácticas de Conocimiento Tradicional (IPCT). Respecto a la identificación de la etapa crítica del cultivo se realizó un análisis de componentes principales y un análisis se de regresión múltiple (p= 0.01) para determinar las labores que influyen para cada categoría: producción y calidad. Se identificó que existen diferencias en el sistema de manejo de vainilla entre San Luis potosí y Veracruz, las cuales están sujetas al conocimiento que les ha sido heredado, la experimentación de los productores y los factores físicos y ambientales donde se desarrolla el cultivo. Las etapas de establecimiento y la etapa de floración y polinización se identificaron como críticas, ya que las labores que el productor desarrolla en cada etapa como el manejo de sombra, la prevención y control de plagas y enfermedades, y la poda de la planta son labores que influyen de manera importante en la producción y calidad de la vainilla. _______________ TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE ON THE MANAGEMENT OF VANILLA CULTIVATION (Vanilla planifolia Jacks Ex. Andrews) IN SAN LUIS POTOSÍ AND VERACRUZ, MEXICO. ABSTRACT: In the traditional systems of production of Vanilla planifolia J. in the Totonaca Region of Veracruz and in the Huasteca of the state of San Luis Potosí reflect the traditional knowledge, culture and the environment where they are developed. However, the traditional management system that producers exercise during the crop cycle, in addition to those stages and tasks critical to the production and quality vanilla are unknown. For this reason the aim of this research was to systematize the management tasks in the stages of establishment, flowering and pollination, development of the fruit and harvest of the vanilla crop. To systematize the management activities, 20 producers were interviewed through a questionnaire and a Traditional Knowledge Practices Index (TKPI) was developed to establish the management tasks in each stage of the crop. Regarding the identification of the critical stage of the crop, a principal component analysis and a multiple regression analysis (p = 0.01) were carried out to determine the tasks that influence each category: production and quality. It was identified that there are differences in the vanilla management system between San Luis Potosi and Veracruz, which are subject to the knowledge that has been inherited to them, the experimentation of the producers and the physical and environmental factors where the crop is grown. The stages of establishment and the stage of flowering and pollination were identified as critical, since the tasks that the producer develops in each stage such as shade management, the prevention and control of pests and diseases, and the pruning of the plant are tasks which have an important influence on the production and quality of vanilla.
