Caracterización ecogeográfica, morfológica y genética de la diversidad de Carica papaya L., nativa de México.

Abstract

No obstante que Carica papaya L. es nativa de México, su variabilidad no se ha estudiado extensivamente. El objetivo de este estudio fue caracterizar ecogeográfica, morfológica y genéticamente recolectas de C. papaya nativas de México. La investigación constó de tres etapas: en la primera se recopiló información de registros de dicha especie de fuentes externas y de recolectas en el campo, la cual se analizó mediante Sistemas de Información Geográfica y análisis multivariados; en la segunda se caracterizó in situ 222 ejemplares de C. papaya a través de 13 descriptores morfológicos para papaya que se analizaron mediante análisis de varianza simple y multivariados; en la tercera se estudiaron 48 genotipos donde se utilizaron 17 loci de microsatélites (SSRs) y 13 descriptores morfológicos para obtener parámetros de diversidad genética, y relaciones genéticas mediante análisis multivariados. C. papaya se distribuyó entre 15 y 27° de latitud norte y se ha adaptado a diferentes ambientes contrastantes. La forma, las dimensiones y la forma del extremo peduncular del fruto son descriptores que permiten diferenciar los genotipos. Los SSRs detectaron mayor diversidad genética en los genotipos domesticados que en los silvestres, y cuando los SSRs se combinaron con los morfológicos, los genotipos estudiados se diferenciaron claramente. C. papaya presenta diversidad ecogeográfica, morfológica y genética amplia en México. _______________ ECOGEOGRAPHIC, MORPHOLOGICAL AND GENETIC CHARACTERIZATION OF THE DIVERSITY OF Carica papaya L. NATIVE FROM MEXICO. ABSTRACT: Carica papaya L. is a native plant from Mexico. However, its general variability has not been studied deeply. The aim of this study was to characterize ecogeographical, morphological and genetically the collected genotypes of C. papaya native from Mexico. The study consisted of three phases. First of all, data was collected of all the records of this species from external sources and field collections, and its geographical distribution was analyzed using Geographic Information Systems and multivariate analyzes; the second one, 222 specimens of C. papaya were characterized in situ through 13 morphological descriptors for C. papaya and were analyzed by simple and multivariate analysis of variance; the third one, 48 genotypes were studied using 17 microsatellite loci (SSRs) and 13 morphological descriptors to obtain parameters of genetic diversity, and genetic relationships through multivariate analysis. It was found that C. papaya was distributed between 15 and 27° North latitude and has been adapted to different contrasting ecogeographic regions. The shape, dimensions and shape of the peduncle end of the fruit are key descriptors that allow differentiating among genotypes. The SSRs detected greater genetic diversity in the domesticated genotypes than in the wild ones, and when the SSRs were combined with the morphological genotypes, the genotypes studied showed a clear differences. C. papaya presents diverse ecogeographic, morphological and genetic diversity in Mexico.
