dc.description.abstract | Se utilizaron frutos de Acacia cochliacantha Humb. & Bonpl. Willd., Caesalpinia cacalaco Bonpl., Vachellia pennatula (Schltdl. & Cham.) Benth., Chloroleucon mangense (Jacq.) Britton & Rose, Senna atomaria (L.) H.S. _______________ ABSTRACT: Fruits of Acacia cochliacantha Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd., Caesalpinia cacalaco Bonpl., Vachellia pennatula (Schltdl. & Cham.) Seigler & Ebinger, Chloroleucon mangense (Jacq.) Britton & Rose, Senna atomaria (L.) H.S. Irwin & Barneby and Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. were used to assess dietary preference and voluntary intake of these items during rabbit fattening and the partial replacement of commercial feed with G. ulmifolia fruit at 0, 15, 30 and 45%. When ground fruit was offered, rabbits preferred C. mangense (0.58 ± 0.8 g; P < 0.05), and when offered as pellets they preferred G. ulmifolia (4.5 ± 3.3 g; P < 0.001). Consistent with the second preference test, rabbits consumed more G. ulmifolia fruit (37.6 ± 15.7 g day-1, P < 0.001) during the voluntary intake test. Rabbits receiving 15, 0 and 30% G. ulmifolia achieved the same weight (P > 0.05; 252.2 ± 41.4, 245.5 ± 59.5, and 238.6 ± 41.0 g week-1, respectively), exceeding those receiving 45% fruit (208.4 ± 46.5 g week-1, P < 0.05). Based on these results, Guazuma ulmifolia fruit appears to have the greatest potential as a supplementary feed for rabbits. The best form to provide to rabbits is as commercial pellets, which can include up to 30% fruit for rabbit fattening without detriment to production. | es_MX |
