Organizaciones y empoderamiento de mujeres en el turismo rural comunitario en la red ecoturística Calakmul, Campeche, México.

Abstract

El propósito de este estudio es analizar el aporte del modelo de Turismo Rural Comunitario (TRC) para el empoderamiento de las mujeres que laboran en distintos tipos de organizaciones. Se planteó que el modelo TRC es la propuesta que más se acerca a la equidad social entre mujeres y hombres en la actividad turística y que las mujeres que colaboran en las organizaciones desarrollan capacidades y habilidades que las conduce al empoderamiento. La investigación se realizó en la Reserva de la Biosfera de Calakmul, identificando a cuatro organizaciones comunitarias que pertenecieron a la Red Ecoturística de Calakmul. Se emplea una metodología de corte cualitativo con técnicas de grupos focales a las organizaciones y entrevistas a profundidad exclusivamente a mujeres participantes. Entre los hallazgos, se obtuvo información sobre operación, gestión y administración de las organizaciones y su participación de las mujeres. Se observa la influencia que ejerce el TRC en el proceso de empoderamiento de las mujeres en tres dimensiones: personal, en las relaciones cercanas (ámbito doméstico) y comunitarias; además, algunos proyectos de turismo alternativo apuestan más a la protección del ambiente que al desarrollo humano. Por otro lado, es importante que las políticas implementadas para el turismo rural se adapten a los contextos y realidades de cada región, ya que muchas veces se han promovido como un modelo hegemónico. El Turismo Rural Comunitario (TRC) es un modelo incluyente que fomenta la autogestión, la acción colectiva, alianzas e iniciativas comunitarias para potencializar el desarrollo humano y la economía local. Estas iniciativas facilitan la incorporación de las mujeres a los proyectos productivos y en algunos casos conllevan un proceso de cambio personal conduciéndolas a su empoderamiento, involucrando acciones, gestión, liderazgo y participación activa dentro y fuera de los emprendimientos turísticos. Es importante reconocer las aportaciones que las mujeres realizan a través de su trabajo y su organización, para motivar que los programas dirigidos a la equidad social en cualquier actividad económica retomen sus quehaceres, conocimientos y habilidades para una acción colectiva. Además, su contribución enriquecerá en materia de género y turismo para la construcción de modelos adecuados a los contextos en el que se encuentran. _______________ ORGANIZATION AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN IN RURAL COMMUNITY TOURISM IN THE CALAKMUL ECOTOURISM NETWORK, CAMPECHE, MEXICO. ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to analyze the contribution of the model of Rural Community Tourism (RCT) for the empowerment of women who work in different types of organizations. It was suggested that the RCT model is the proposal that most closely approximates social equity between women and men in tourism activity and that women who collaborate in organizations develop skills and abilities that lead to empowerment. The research was conducted in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, identifying four community organizations that belonged to the Calakmul Ecotourism Network. A methodology of qualitative cut with techniques of focal groups to the organizations and in-depth interviews exclusively to women participants is used. Among the findings, information was obtained on the operation, management and administration of the organizations and their participation by women. The influence exercised by the RCT in the process of empowering women in three dimensions is observed: personal, in close relationships (domestic sphere) and community; besides, some alternative tourism projects are more committed to protecting the environment than to human development. On the other hand, it is important that the policies implemented for rural tourism are adapted to the contexts and realities of each region, since they have often been promoted as a hegemonic model. Rural Community Tourism (RCT) is an inclusive model that encourages self-management, collective action, alliances and community initiatives to empower human development and the local economy. These initiatives facilitate the incorporation of women into productive projects and in some cases involve a process of personal change leading to their empowerment, involving actions, management, leadership and active participation inside and outside of tourism ventures. It is important to recognize the contributions that women make through their work and their organization, to motivate that programs aimed at social equity in any economic activity resume their tasks, knowledge and skills for collective action. Besides, their contribution will enrich in the area of gender and tourism for the construction of models appropriate to the contexts in which they are located.
