_______________ PHENOTYPE, ANATOMY, AND MOLECULAR AND METABOLIC IDENTIFICATION OF INVERTASES, IN THE DIURNAL-NIGHT CYCLE, OF FRUIT CLUSTERS OF BEANS (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) WITH MOISTURE RESTRICTION. ABSTRACT: The pericarp is essential for the protection and formation of seeds in beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). The objective of the present study was to describe the effect of moisture restriction on the phenotype, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and expression of invertases in fruit bunches, with different size, and force of demand in bean plants (P. vulgaris). The proposed hypothesis is that there are metabolic differences in the pericarps of fruits with different numbers of developing seeds. Plants of the OTI cultivar were grown in a greenhouse with irrigation. In stage R8, or pod filling, two groups were formed, one continued to irrigate (100 % field capacity, CC) and the other one was reduced to 50 % field capacity for ten days. The phenotype analysis in RGB images showed that the plants at 50 % CC, after 10 days, presented severe symptoms of senescence in the leaves, since they completely lost the green color, they kept the fruits green, and remained so for several days. In pod clusters, the structural functionality of long and short pods was demonstrated anatomically, in histological sections. No differences were observed between the pods of the plants with 50 and 100 % CC. Glucose and starch concentrations in long and short pericarps remained low, compared to fructose and sucrose in the day-night cycle, regardless of humidity level. Sucrose concentrations in long fruits increased 15 % at noon. In contrast, with 50% CC, sucrose levels remained high throughout the day, and fructose levels decreased. Cell wall invertase (CP) enzyme activity was 10-15 % higher in short fruits at both moisture levels. This result was not observed in vacuolar or cytosolic invertases. Bioinformatic analysis showed that in the P. vulgaris genome there are six possible genes encoding PC invertases. Amino acid homology showed that the sequence encoded in the PvCWINV3 and PvCWINV4 genes have differences in motifs related to catalysis and phylogenetic relationship with dicots. The transcript levels, determined by RT-qPCR, showed that the transcript levels of the PvCWINV4 gene were 20% higher in short fruits harvested from plants with 50% CC compared to short fruits from irrigated plants. Sucrose metabolism differs between bean fruits with different number of seeds, during seed filling.

_______________ PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSIS AND EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF THE GENUS Linum (LINOIDEAE: LINACEAE). ABSTRACT: Linum, best known for cultivated flax or linseed, is the most diverse and representative genus of the Linaceae family, with about 180 widely distributed species. Few works have been done to elucidate the phylogenetic relationships and evolutionary history of Linum and its segregated genera. Under this context, the present work constitutes a systematic and evolutionary investigation of Linum and the subfamily Linoideae, with molecular characters. The results revealed that Linum is paraphyletic in the current circumscription. While at the section level, only Dasylinum, Syllinum and Cathartolinum, were recovered as monophyletic. Molecular dating analysis suggests that the subfamily Linoideae and the genus Linum diversified during the Eocene, with the main radiation event of the genus occurring during the Miocene. Reconstruction analyses of ancestral areas show the Asia+Europe+Mediterranean Basin region as the ancestral area of the subfamily, while Asia is the ancestral area of Linum. The recent emergence of the group supports the hypothesis of long-distance dispersal as an explanation for its current geographic configuration.

_______________ POTENTIAL DISTRIBUTION AND CONSERVATION SITES OF Tagetes (Asteraceae) IN THE TRANS-MEXICAN VOLCANIC BELT. ABSTRACT: The genus Tagetes belongs to the Asteraceae family and has 50 to 55 species. Mexico is considered the center of diversification of this genus with 27 species, of which 15 are endemic. These species are important for their diversity in uses such as medicinal, ceremonial and edible plants, among others. In Mexico they are distributed in a wide variety of climates, mainly in mountainous areas where areas of climatic transition predominate, such as the Transmexican Volcanic Belt (FVT). This region stands out for its high species richness, but also for the high number of endemic species. The TVF has 37 Natural Protected Areas, however, there are currently no studies that show the conservation status, diversity, and actual distribution of Tagetes species. The objective of the present study was to analyze the actual and potential distribution of Tagetes in the FVT, and to predict those geographic areas with greater diversity that are in conservation areas and thus be able to support proposals for potential areas for conservation in the region. The potential distribution models were generated with records of the presence of 14 Tagetes species in the region and with 50 climatic variables using MaxEnt software. The models obtained were used in the ConsNet software to define suitable sites for conservation. The 14 distribution models performed are categorized as fair with values of 0.704 to good with values of 0.905 with respect to their AUC values. According to the two scenarios solved in ConsNet, the MDS2-10% scenario presents a better solution by having fewer cells covering an area of 10031.36 km2, in which there are 12 Natural Protected Areas (NPA), where two NPAs have records of Tagetes.

_______________ EFFECT OF THE SLOPE ORIENTATION ON THE SUCCULENT POPULATIONS IN THE REGION OF YAGUL, OAXACA. ABSTRACT: The availability of moisture for plants in arid areas is determined by the effect of exposure of the slopes, among other factors. The slopes with exposure towards the North are more humid than those with exposure towards South. Previous investigations found that the orientation of the slopes influences the composition and structure of plant communities. The study evaluated the richness, composition and structure of the succulent populations on different slopes of the Monumento Natural Yagul, Tlacolula, Oaxaca. On each slope, with orientations towards the North, South, East and West, 18 sample units of 30 x 2 m were established, where the density, cover, frequency and height of the succulent species were measured. The density was recorded with a count of individuals within the sample unit. The length and width of the plants was measured and the area calculated with the formula of the area of the circle; this was the cover of each species. With the aforementioned data, the Importance Value Index (IVI) was obtained. On each slope, soil samples were taken (0 to 20 cm). The sampling scheme consisted of 24 composite samples, each consisting of three subsamples obtained from three sample units from the lower, middle and upper slopes. The purpose was to analyze the influence of edaphic variables on the composition and structure of succulents in different slopes of the study area with Canonical Correspondence Analysis. A total of 1646 individuals were registered, belonging to 21 species, 11 genera and 3 families. The family with the highest number of species (11) was Cactaceae with 1033 individuals. The species with the highest values of the importance index (IVI) were Opuntia pubescens and Hechtia pringlei on the Northern slope, O. pubescens and Opuntia pilifera on the Southern slope, Myrtillocactus schenckii and O. pubescens on the Eastern slope, O. pubescens and M. schenckii on the Western slope. The analysis of floristic similarity based on the presence-absence of species and the Jaccard coefficient as an index of similarity, showed a pattern of differentiation of sampling units oriented to the North, which was supported to some extent with the procedure of Detrended Correspondence Analysis that associates sampling units with species. The Multi-Response Permutation Procedures test indicated significant differences (p <0.05) in the composition of species between conditions.
The ordination of plant groups in terms of the seven edaphic variables showed in general that soil conditions were highly variable. The correlations between the variables and the ordination axis, indicated that the axis one differentiated the slopes with a Southern orientation, that have a higher content of phosphorus and organic matter, with average values of 22.12 and 3.21 respectively in relation to the other slopes, whose content of both elements was, for phosphorus Northern slope = 7.59, Eastern slope = 6.97 and Western slope = 16.16, while for organic matter the content was, Northern slope = 2.80, Eastern slope = 1.12 and Western slope = 0.31). The edaphic variables that contributed in a higher level to the differentiation of the slopes and populations were organic matter and phosphorus content. The edaphic variables that were important for the slopes and populations were organic matter and phosphorus content. These analysis explain the distribution of the succulent species in the Yagul area and to recommend some actions for its conservation.
